Levels 50–58
Ash-choked highlands beneath Blackrock Mountain, held by Blackrock orcs, Fire-Gut ogres and black dragons.
The Burning Steppes are a ruined highland of ash, lava and smouldering stone, scorched when Thaurissan’s summoning of Ragnaros ended the War of the Three Hammers; the ruins of the old Dark Iron city of Thaurissan still stand here. The steppes carry the only land route between Stormwind and Khaz Modan, yet the kingdom has all but abandoned them.
Above them looms Blackrock Mountain. Blackrock Spire, the Horde’s great fortress in the Second War, is held by Blackrock orcs and black dragons under Nefarian, while the Dark Iron dwarves rule the depths below. Fire-Gut ogres roam the plains, and only the Alliance outpost of Morgan’s Vigil and the Horde camp at Flame Crest hold out.
