A red, ruined desert around the silent Dark Portal, watched by the mages and paladins of Nethergarde Keep.
The Blasted Lands were once part of the Black Morass, until the magic that opened the Dark Portal warped them into a red desert of cracked clay. The great portal through which the Horde first invaded still stands here, its stone frame dark and silent since its destruction. Nethergarde Keep, a Stormwind fortress of mages and paladins, keeps watch over it.
Little else lives in the scorched waste besides scorpions, basilisks, Dreadmaul ogres and a few draenei exiles. Demons linger too: the doom lord Kazzak gathers what remains of the Burning Legion in the Tainted Scar.
