Chapter 12 of 24 · The Second War
About five to six years after the Dark Portal
1 min read
The human kingdoms, elves, dwarves and gnomes united as the Alliance of Lordaeron and broke Doomhammer's Horde at Blackrock Spire.
Lothar's warning moved King Terenas Menethil of Lordaeron to call the human kingdoms together. They formed the Alliance of Lordaeron with Lothar as supreme commander; the dwarves of Ironforge, the gnomes and, honoring their old oath to Arathor's bloodline, the high elves of Quel'Thalas joined them. To give the soldiers hope, Archbishop Alonsus Faol founded the Knights of the Silver Hand, the first paladins, with Uther the Lightbringer at their head.
Doomhammer's Horde had grown too. Ogres, Amani trolls under Zul'jin and goblin sappers fought beside the orcs; the Dragonmaw clan used Deathwing's Dragon Soul to enslave red dragons at Grim Batol; Gul'dan raised the first death knights. The Horde overran Khaz Modan, burned parts of Quel'Thalas and laid siege to Lordaeron's capital.
At the decisive moment Gul'dan betrayed Doomhammer and sailed off to raise the Tomb of Sargeras, taking two clans with him, the Stormreavers and the Twilight's Hammer. The weakened Horde fell back to Blackrock Mountain. In the battle at Blackrock Spire, Doomhammer killed Lothar, but Lothar's lieutenant Turalyon broke the Horde, and Khadgar destroyed the Dark Portal. The surviving orcs were herded into internment camps. In Forever's Riverglades, Twilight's Hammer ogres and Stormreaver orcs fleeing the Tomb made a new home.
