The ancient kaldorei kept watch over Kalimdor for ten thousand years; now mortal, they have planted a new World Tree and joined the Alliance.
The night elves, or kaldorei, are the oldest of the playable peoples. Descended from trolls changed by the Well of Eternity, they built an empire of magic, survived the War of the Ancients and spent ten thousand years as a reclusive people of druids and Sentinels in the shadow of Mount Hyjal. Arcane magic remains forbidden among them.
The Third War cost them their immortality, when Nordrassil was wounded to destroy Archimonde. With Malfurion lost in the Emerald Dream, Archdruid Fandral Staghelm grew a new World Tree, Teldrassil, off the coast of Darkshore, and the capital Darnassus rose in its branches. Under Tyrande Whisperwind the night elves joined the Alliance. New night elves begin among Teldrassil’s glades.
