The gnomes' lost capital in Dun Morogh, poisoned by a radiation purge after a trogg invasion and a traitor's advice.
Built deep inside the mountains of Dun Morogh, Gnomeregan was the gnomes' greatest wonder of engineering. Then troggs boiled up from below and overran it. High Tinker Mekkatorque followed the advice of his adviser, Sicco Thermaplugg, and flooded the city with radiation to kill the invaders, but the purge slew most of the gnomes as well. The survivors fled to Ironforge.
It was betrayal. Thermaplugg stayed behind, crowned himself lord of the ruins and now commands leper gnomes, troggs and mad machines such as the Electrocutioner 6000 and the Crowd Pummeler 9-60. The exiles have sworn to take their home back.
