Mage

Mages wield the arcane, the raw magic of order that once welled up from the Well of Eternity. The night elves' Highborne were the first great sorcerers, and their exiled descendants, the high elves of Quel'Thalas, taught the art to a hundred humans during the Troll Wars. Those first human magi went on to found Dalaran, where the Kirin Tor still guard the secrets of spellcraft.

Every age of the story turns on a mage: Medivh, the last Guardian; his apprentice Khadgar, who destroyed the Dark Portal; Archmage Antonidas, who died defending Dalaran; and Jaina Proudmoore, who now rules Theramore. In year 25 new students train in Stormwind's Mage Quarter and the Undercity's Magic Quarter, and gnome and troll mages have long stood beside humans and Forsaken. Forever opens the path to orcs, whose spellcasters once knew only shamanism and fel magic, and to the High Order, the only Skyborne who may become mages.
