The Scepter of the Shifting Sands

Nearly a thousand years before the First War, the insectoid qiraji poured out of Ahn'Qiraj, urged on by the Old God C'Thun. Archdruid Fandral Staghelm led the night elves against them, but his son Valstann was cut down before his eyes, and the war turned. Only with the help of four dragonflights were the swarms driven back and sealed behind the Scarab Wall.

The wall could be opened only by striking the Scarab Gong with this scepter. Fandral, in the fury of his grief, shattered it, and its pieces were scattered. In the original game, adventurers reassembled the scepter, rang the gong and opened Ahn'Qiraj once more.
