Ashbringer

Legendary items
1 min read
A holy blade forged in Ironforge to burn the undead to ash, then betrayed and corrupted in the Plaguelands.
During the Second War, Highlord Alexandros Mograine of the Silver Hand found a dark crystal on a slain orc warlock. When the Scourge threatened Lordaeron, the order’s leaders tried to destroy it with holy magic; instead the crystal drank in the Light and turned radiant. King Magni Bronzebeard forged it into a sword on the Great Anvil of Ironforge, and in Mograine’s hands the Ashbringer reduced the undead to ash.
The dreadlord Balnazzar and Kel'Thuzad plotted his fall. Mograine’s son Renault led him into a Scourge ambush at Stratholme and killed him with his own sword, corrupting it. In year 25, Alexandros serves Kel'Thuzad as a death knight, while Renault commands the Scarlet Monastery. Only in later stories was the blade cleansed.
