Chapter 10 of 24 · The Orcs of Draenor
The decades before the Dark Portal
1 min read
On distant Draenor, Kil'jaeden turned the shamanistic orc clans into a bloodthirsty Horde bound by demon blood.
On the world of Draenor the orcs lived as proud clans of hunters and shaman, honoring their ancestors and the spirits of the elements. They shared their world uneasily with the draenei, the eredar who had fled Argus with Velen. Kil'jaeden had never stopped hunting those exiles, and in the orcs he saw a weapon.
Disguised as the spirit of Ner'zhul's dead wife, the demon lord whispered to the elder shaman and turned him against the draenei. When Ner'zhul hesitated, Kil'jaeden found a more willing student in Gul'dan, who founded the secret Shadow Council and taught the orcs fel magic; they were the first warlocks. The elements fell silent, and the orcs' green land began to die.
At a great gathering the clan chieftains drank the blood of the pit lord Mannoroth, and Grom Hellscream of the Warsong clan drank first. Filled with demonic fury, the united Horde fell upon the draenei and nearly wiped them out. Only Durotan's Frostwolf clan stood partly apart. When the killing was over, Gul'dan needed a new war, and Kil'jaeden's master already had one waiting on Azeroth.
